Here we go again
I thought I'd try this blogging thing again. I got so busy with work and life this winter that I had zero inspiration to blog any more. But the situation has changed since then and I find myself with more free time and a desire to document what's going on.A brief update on the last few months:
-- My traveling to China is done, although the project work is not. I returned from the final trip on Feb. 28th. There are still several paperwork tasks to complete, but the pressure is off. The new plant started making product a couple of weeks ago. My family is happy to have me home again after being in Shanghai for most of the past 6 months.
-- My son S and I have been touring colleges in the area to get an idea of where he might want to go to school in the fall of 2010. So far we've been to St. Cloud State, UM-Duluth, UW-Stout, and UW-Eau Claire. He doesn't know what his major will be yet, but the more time we spend examining his options, maybe that will become clearer. S also has taken the ACT entrance exam and will be taking it again (with the writing portion this time) in June.
-- Because of the slow economy, my company is requiring us to take half of our banked vacation plus all of our earned vacation by the end of the year. For me that means I need to take 9 weeks (45 days) off. I'm OK with that as long as I still have a job at the end.
-- The orchestra is limping along, but will be run by a new group of people next year, as my company, which used to provide financial support, will no longer do so. I'm free! Sharon and I have also played in a few other church groups recently.
-- The holidays went well, and Mom and Dan came up to the Twin Cities to celebrate with us. During the last few weeks Mom has not felt well, and worried that she had a serious health problem. All tests to date have ruled out major problems, so we hope that she can shake whatever bug she's got.
-- All the good food I had during my time in Shanghai added to my waistline, and I'm now heavier than I've ever been in my life. With the better weather that's finally here, I'm going to make walking and exercise a high priority, and try to cut back on unhealthy food.
I've also joined the Twitter craze, although I only "tweet" when I'm near a PC, since I don't have that capability on my cell phone. You can find me at @cheappd.
In the future I'll probably devote a post or ten to the time I spent in China, which was a unique experience. Also I'll be talking about summer vacation plans. We hope to visit California where Sharon's brother and his family lives, if we can arrange a time with them.
Anyway, I'm back and ready to rock!
